Through a 19th century lens: NYC Subway 1970's--not the NY Times

I was at undergraduate at SVA when I began making subway photographs. NY was a different place then and the subway bore the imprint of the city. It was all out there to see, if we chose to look.

Making pictures in the subways was illegal as well as risky. People wearing Leica’s around their neck…
